Elissa Sanchez-Speach, M.D.

Department Chair, Family Medicine

Dr. Speach is a board-certified family physician. She received her medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY, in 1988 and completed a residency in family medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, also in Syracuse, in 1991. Prior to that, she received a B.S. degree from Union College and an M.S. in Natural Sciences from SUNY/Buffalo at Roswell Park Memorial Institute. She has practiced hospital and nursing home medicine, as well as outpatient primary care, in group and private solo practice. Dr. Speach also has experience in correctional medicine and telemedicine.

Dr. Speach is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine, a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the NY State Academy of Family Physicians. She is also a founding member and past president of the Finger Lakes Guild of the Catholic Medical Association.

In 2013 she completed training at Pope Paul VI Institute in Omaha, NE, to become a Natural Family Planning Medical Consultant, which allowed her to incorporate NaProTechnology techniques using the Creighton Model Fertility Care System, into her primary care outpatient practice. Using these techniques, she has treated a variety of women’s health issues, including but not limited to infertility, recurrent miscarriage, painful periods, PMS, ovarian cysts, abnormal bleeding, PCOS, and hormonal abnormalities, in a manner that is consistent with the Ethical and Religious Directives of the USCCB.     She has been a strong advocate of fertility awareness-based methods of family planning to her patients and the lay and medical communities.

She lives in Pittsford, NY, with her husband, who is also a physician, and their German Shepherd dog. They have 4 young adult children with growing families, who visit often enough to keep the house full!
