Finding a pro-life doctor that really cares for you

American healthcare is broken, but MyCatholicDoctor is here to keep pro-life Catholic healthcare accessible and affordable.

There is a lie that secular healthcare wants you to believe– they want you to believe that they respect your pro-life Catholic values. But these organizations support abortion, euthanasia, gender transition, and more. Where are your healthcare dollars going? When you use MyCatholicDoctor, you can be sure your healthcare dollars always support life and most importantly, our doctors will also respect YOUR life.

Your body is a temple, your body is holy. Please use our pro-life health services when you need:

  • Urgent telehealth care
  • Your mammogram ordered
  • Your cholesterol screening ordered
  • Catholic mental health services
  • Abortion pill reversal
  • Reproductive grief care, including post-abortion care, miscarriage, and infant loss
  • Care for gender detransitioners
  • Specialty Catholic services such as fertility care for men and women, dementia care, end of life care, pro-life genetic counseling, and more
  • Addiction care
  • Mental health services
  • And much more

The Question You’re Afraid to Ask

“Why don’t the doctors just pay for this themselves?
Why does MyCatholicDoctor need donors?”
I’m so glad she asked– this was a question from an attorney who is faithful, intelligent, and has been involved in pro-life efforts for many years.

We do! Our doctors and other healthcare professionals are major donors of their time, talent and treasure. Many donate much of their monthly paycheck back to us. They also donate to our foundation when they first join us.

Dr. Katrina Nguyen, a physician with MyCatholicDoctor, has generously opened our end-of-year campaign with a $10,000 matching grant! So far we have raised $8,235 towards this matching grant. Will you help us make this match?

Our doctors also give generously of their time and talent, seeing patients with financial hardship for free. But free visits are not free to MyCatholicDoctor. In fact, we estimate that each free visit costs us $42 in overhead including malpractice insurance, technology, medical records and administrative support.

Our similarly sized secular competitors, such as TimelyMD, raised 60 million in private equity funding. We have started MyCatholicDoctor with 1.1 million in donations over the course of five years. Our doctors are generous and we are frugal. But we still need your help.

We are a national organization offering services in 50 states. The fact that we have done this with 1.1 million is a miracle, and a testament to the hundreds of people who have donated their time and expertise. Our law firm is pro-bono. Our board of directors and our advisory board are all volunteers. We have volunteers that help us with promotional materials, mailings, online development, and more. We have a small administrative team– only 9 full time employees to support a medical staff of 165+ and growing. Two staff members are volunteers.

What is Abortion Pill Reversal

Planned Parenthood provides telehealth abortions and sends abortion pills through the mail, but at MyCatholicDoctor, we are offering abortion pill reversal, also known as APR.
What is Abortion Pill Reversal? It’s actually quite simple. The first drug used for pharmaceutical abortion blocks the effects of progesterone. We give progesterone to overcome the effects of the abortion pill and save the baby’s life. We also save the parents from a lifetime of trauma and the psychological effects of abortion.

Here is a note I received from a MyCatholicDoctor medical staff member:

“Hi Kathleen…I wanted to share a picture of a beautiful baby girl born yesterday…I had done the APR protocol for her mother, it was touch and go in the beginning with her mom having a lot of bleeding…she stayed in touch with me then and ever since. Her mother is so thankful for the APR protocol and thrilled to have her baby here and well. She gave me permission to share the picture  please share if you feel it would be a good thing, there is no identifying information. I’m so thankful to be able to use my license in this way and so thankful for MCD to give me the platform and support to do that.”

Your support makes stories like these possible. Your generosity provides comfort, care, and a lifeline to those who need pro-life healthcare.

Our Big Surprise

When we started MyCatholicDoctor, we thought the hardest part would be recruiting faithful Catholic doctors. But there was a big surprise.

I have interviewed about 400 Catholic clinicians who just want to practice authentic pro-life Catholic healthcare, valuing each patient, providing comprehensive medical care without cutting corners. And we recruited NONE of them. They all came to us, praise God. They come from the best institutions– ivy league and academic medical centers, the US military, and even Catholic health systems. They are leaving because they want to practice authentic Catholic healthcare.

Doctors who practice in accordance with Catholic teaching don’t get hired by most American health systems. Our legacy Catholic health systems are frail. Those who have worked in leading healthcare institutions for many years are leaving. It’s legal to ask in interviews about a clinician’s practice regarding abortion, euthanasia, contraception, gender transition, and more. Even CVS will not hire health care professionals that do not prescribe contraception.

This means that you may have a hard time finding a doctor who values your life from natural conception until natural death. There is no reward for thorough, comprehensive care.

More than 70% of American physicians are now employed, they don’t have ownership or authority over their own practices.

Why don’t Catholic doctor’s just start their own private practices? For the same reason secular physicians are having trouble staying independent. The large health systems have enough market share to negotiate with health insurance companies, while the small independent practices get paid less and less.

At MyCatholicDoctor, we are letting pro-life Catholic doctors practice independently, and with the full voice of their faith, with the economy of scale that comes from being a part of a large medical organization.

At the core of MyCatholicDoctor’s mission lies a commitment to pro-life healthcare, guided by our Catholic values. We believe in the sanctity of life, and it is this belief that drives us to provide compassionate and authentic healthcare to individuals and families, no matter where they are.

Our dedication to pro-life values is unwavering, and we invite you to stand with us. Your donations enable us to expand and enhance our telehealth services, ensuring that the sanctity of life is upheld in every interaction and every decision.

We do the dirty work

Why hasn’t any major health system opened a program for gender detransitioners? We see them, but other organizations that are better funded have not started offering care for gender detransitioning.

Why did our clinician, Dr. Cami Jo Tice-Harouff sue the Biden administration last year because they tried to remove natural family planning from the affordable care act? (She won!) The Alliance for Defending Freedom, who represented Dr. Cami Jo, could not find a plaintiff from a major health system. They found one with us.

Why hasn’t one major health system opened an abortion pill reversal center? APR is an evidence-based effective protocol, but we don’t know of any major health system advertising these services. We provide abortion pill reversal.

We provide the healthcare services that main-stream healthcare is not offering.

The list goes on: male and female infertility care consistent with Catholic teaching, mental health for children and adults that does not affirm the harms of gender transition, and much more.

Please help us continue to do the dirty work- the care that major health systems are not offering, the care needed by so many suffering souls.

Our Secret

A wonderful secret to share this first Sunday of Advent. Catholic healthcare is not just pro-life, excellent healthcare. It is not just about keeping abortion and euthanasia illegal (although these are very important fights). Ultimately, Catholic healthcare is about helping our patients realize that their suffering is not just meaningful, but powerful. What a wonderful secret to share as our patients prepare for Christmas.

The mission of MyCatholicDoctor Foundation (MCDF) is to answer the call of Jesus Christ in Luke 10:9, when He said, “Cure the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’”

The universal human experience of illness is a powerful time to recognize that 1) suffering is redemptive and an opportunity to grow in holiness, and 2) healing is a work of God, for which we can be grateful. Through illness and healing the Kingdom of God comes near to us. As healthcare professionals answering the call of Jesus Christ in Luke 10:9, our job is to 1) provide state-of-the-art, effective, ethical medical care and 2) accompany patients in their suffering and healing, so that they recognize that in this time of sickness and healing, the Kingdom of God has come near to them.

In everything we do, we strive to fulfill the call of Jesus, treating each patient as if caring for Christ Himself, in order to bring the kingdom of God into the world by bearing witness to the Gospel.

We enable patients to connect directly with Catholic doctors; Likewise, we enable faithful clinicians to practice independently and with the full voice of their faith. We believe that the only third party in the doctor-patient relationship should be the Holy Spirit. Our platform empowers clinicians to answer the dual call of Jesus Christ in Luke 10:9, a task that has become prohibitively difficult through most secular healthcare employers.

We Won!

We won Dobbs, and we won Tice-Harouff v. Johnson. But winning the legal cases is just the beginning. Now comes the real work of taking care of the most vulnerable people among us.

MyCatholicDoctor stands at a crucial juncture in our mission to provide authentic Catholic healthcare. Your support has brought us this far, and we now invite you to be a part of building a brighter future for pro-life healthcare.

We need to do more than just keep Catholic healthcare legal. We need to let Catholic doctors practice.

Will you consider making a generous donation today to ensure that our mission thrives and pro-life values continue to guide our services? Your contribution has the power to transform countless lives and provide hope and healing to those in need.

5 critical pro-life healthcare services

We offer 5 critical pro-life medical services that are otherwise very difficult to access for most Americans:

  1. End-of-life care that is always pro-life and never affirms euthanasia or terminal sedation
  2. Abortion Pill Reversal (APR)– most abortions are now pharmaceutical, through pills that you can get in the mail or at a local pharmacy. We need every pro-life clinician and every Catholic or Christian health system to offer abortion pill reversal. But right now many are not offering APR, and we don’t know why. MyCatholicDoctor never turns these patients away.
  3. Mental health services that are consistent with Catholic teaching and affirm Catholic spirituality.
  4. Care for gender “detransitioners” – people who have undergone so-called “gender transition” and now recognize that they are meant to live as their God-given gender.
  5. Male and Female fertility care from a Catholic perspective. We work with couples using evidence-based medicine to achieve pregnancy without IVF, and offer Natural Family Planning(NFP)/Fertility Awareness education in 7 methods. NFP is billed to insurance pre-deductible and without co-pay in accordance with the affordable care act.

Of course, these critical services are offered in addition to our full-service telehealth options, including urgent care, virtual primary care, dermatology, endocrinology, rheumatology, and much more. See our full list of services here.

Through your support in joining our mission together we are able to:

  1. Extend our telehealth services to reach more individuals.
  2. Enhance the quality of care we provide, maintaining pro-life values.
  3. Develop educational resources that align with our mission.
  4. Expand our reach to underserved communities.

Your donation is not just a financial contribution; it is a lifeline for those in need of authentic Catholic healthcare. The impact of your generosity is immeasurable, and we want you to know just how much of a difference you make.

Does MyCatholicDoctor offer in-person services in addition to telehealth?

Yes! We offer in-person care at various offices across the United States. All of our clinicians are also empowered to offer house calls. When you make an appointment, you will notice the in-person appointment option.

But we have another secret to share– most people don’t use our office-based services, even if they live 5 minutes away from an office. They go once, realize they trust MyCatholicDoctor’s care, and then request telehealth most of the time.

We average 5 stars on our Google reviews because we truly care about you, and listen to you. Most of our appointments are 60 minutes long.

Thorough care starts with taking the time to listen to patients and ask the appropriate questions. Is your current in-person doctor not spending this kind of time with you? Fancy waiting rooms don’t make up for a doctor who spends 5 minutes with you and hardly touches you.

Telehealth, or telemedicine, has proven to be highly effective compared to traditional in-person care in several ways:

  • Convenience: Patients can connect with healthcare professionals from the comfort of their homes. This saves time and effort, as there’s no need to commute, wait in a clinic, or take time off work.
  • Continuity of Care: Telehealth enables ongoing communication between patients and healthcare providers, fostering better continuity of care. Regular check-ins, monitoring of chronic conditions, and follow-ups become more manageable and frequent.
  • Improved Health Outcomes: Studies have shown that telehealth services often result in health outcomes that are as good as, if not better than, in-person care. This is especially true for chronic disease management, mental health consultations, and follow-up appointments.
  • Reduced Exposure to Infections: Particularly relevant in times of contagious diseases, telehealth reduces the risk of exposure to infections by minimizing in-person contact, making it a safer option during pandemics or when contagious illnesses are prevalent.
  • Cost-Efficiency: Telehealth can be more cost-effective for both patients and healthcare providers. It reduces overhead costs associated with running a physical clinic, and for patients, it minimizes expenses related to transportation and missed work hours.
  • Enhanced Monitoring and Data Collection: Remote patient monitoring devices and health apps allow for continuous tracking of vital signs and health data. This helps healthcare providers make more informed decisions and adjustments to treatment plans.

In-person care remains essential for certain procedures and diagnoses that require physical examination or intervention. However, telehealth has increasingly demonstrated its effectiveness in providing accessible, convenient, and quality healthcare services, making it a valuable complement to traditional in-person care.

Prayer is a critical part of healing

Prayer is work. It takes time, focus, and intentionality. At MyCatholicDoctor, we are committed to this work by praying for our patients, as written in James 5:14-15 (NRSV):

“Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up, and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven.”

Prayer is not just a religious practice, it is a powerful tool in promoting healing. At MyCatholicDoctor, we believe that prayer is an essential part of any healing journey. That’s why we have a dedicated prayer team that offers prayers for our patients and anyone who needs healing.

Our prayer team is here for you and specifically pray for your intentions in front of the Eucharist.

Good News from MyCatholicDoctor – Announced 12/21/2023

As we make these final preparations for Christmas, I want to express my sincere gratitude to our Lord for his faithfulness, and to all of you for your generosity towards our end-of-your campaign.

$123,629.57!!!! That’s our new total, praise God!

We are now getting closer to our goal of $189,119.

We still need $65,490 to meet our end-of-the-year goal.

We had one generous donor make a $50,000 donation.

Our own doctors and clinicians have been very generous.

We have had an extensive number of smaller donations, $250 or less, that together makeup almost $10,000. No gift is too small.

One monthly donor offers $42 per month, which covers the overhead cost of a free appointment for a patient when the doctor volunteers their time.

We had a bishop make a financial donation of his personal funds and offer mass for us! And the stories of generosity continue. Two priests have supported us financially, a religious order of nuns sent us a generous donation, and the list of generosity continues.

We have received donations from people that have struggled to pay their own bills, from families with many children, and from retired people on fixed incomes.

There is an order of nuns that prays for us every day and we have a growing list of volunteers on our prayer team. They pray for our patients specifically, by name, and in front of the Blessed Sacrament.

Your generosity is humbling. Please know of our prayers for all of our donors, especially as we prepare our hearts for Christmas.

Most gratefully,
Kathleen Berchelmann, MD
