A Miracle of Faith and Medicine: How One Mother’s Trust in Life-Affirming Care Saved Her Baby
“For I know the plans I have for you. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope in the future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
When Medical Options Seemed Limited, Faith Provided a Path Forward
For many expectant mothers facing pregnancy complications, the medical options presented can feel devastatingly limited. This was Miros’s experience when, at 17 weeks pregnant with her sixth child, she faced what doctors initially diagnosed as a ruptured amniotic sac—a condition that often leads to the recommendation of pregnancy termination.
But Miros’s story demonstrates how faithful Catholic healthcare can provide life-affirming alternatives when conventional medicine offers little hope. Through the dedicated support of MyCatholicDoctor, specifically Dr. Kim Reyes, Miros’s story transformed from one of potential tragedy to a testimony of God’s grace and the power of life-affirming medical care.
A History of Loss and the Search for Answers
Miros came to MyCatholicDoctor after experiencing three previous miscarriages. When conventional healthcare providers dismissed these losses as mere statistics, offering little investigation until she would reach a fourth or fifth loss, a cousin suggested she try MyCatholicDoctor.
“I reached out to Dr. Kim Reyes because I had already had my third miscarriage back in 2022,” Miros explains. “A cousin of mine suggested the website and said, ‘Who knows? Maybe you can try it out or they can help you, refer you to somebody.'”
Shortly before her first appointment, Miros discovered she was pregnant again. Understanding the hormonal challenges that had affected Miros’s previous pregnancies, Dr. Reyes immediately began monitoring her progesterone levels. When testing showed these levels dropping, Dr. Reyes prescribed progesterone therapy.
This treatment proved successful, and Miros delivered a healthy baby girl. So when Miros became pregnant again, she immediately reached out to Dr. Reyes for the same care—a decision that would later prove providential.
A Crisis at 17 Weeks
At 17 weeks and two days into her pregnancy, while waiting in line for confession at church, Miros noticed some discharge. Later in the restroom, she saw blood and immediately contacted Dr. Reyes, who advised her to go to the emergency room.
“I went there, and I told them, I think my water broke. I’m not too sure what’s going on,” Miros recalls. “They confirmed via ultrasound that my water did break.”
What followed was a frustrating series of hospital visits where Miros was repeatedly offered only two options: terminate the pregnancy or go home and wait for a natural miscarriage. Despite the risk of infection from a ruptured amniotic sac, multiple hospitals refused to provide antibiotics.
“They told me, the only thing we can do for you because the baby’s not viable is, you know, go home, let the baby pass, or do the whole procedure [abortion],” Miros explains. “And I was like, I wasn’t okay with it. And I told them, no, I’m just gonna wait it off and see.”
The Search for Life-Affirming Care
Behind the scenes, Dr. Reyes was working tirelessly, calling medical professionals across the country, even in Texas and Nebraska, looking for someone who would provide Miros with proper care without recommending termination.
“Dr. Kim Reyes, she was looking everywhere. She called people. I remember like in Texas, she was calling a lot of people,” Miros shares. “And it got to the point where nobody in the hospitals wanted to like keep me a couple days, just to see if I would develop an infection or something.”
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Dr. Reyes even offered to help Miros travel to receive proper care if necessary.
After visiting multiple hospitals, Miros finally received antibiotics from a reluctant doctor who noted he was prescribing them “just because you want them,” adding that he didn’t believe they would help.
A Startling Discovery
When Miros finally reached a medical facility willing to thoroughly examine her condition, they discovered something remarkable. After multiple tests, all came back negative for amniotic fluid leakage. The doctors were puzzled by the conflicting results from earlier tests.
“Fresno was the last hospital I saw, and they tested me three times, and it came back all three negative,” Miros recounts. “Everything looked great on the ultrasound. The water fluid looked good, too.”
The medical professionals couldn’t explain what had happened—whether the amniotic sac had resealed itself (something her regular OB had insisted was impossible in her 40 years of practice) or whether the initial diagnosis had been incorrect.
What they could confirm was that Miros’s baby was healthy and that continuing the pregnancy was possible.
A Name Chosen Before the Crisis
Perhaps most remarkable in this story is how Miros had chosen her baby’s name months before the crisis occurred. Though originally planning to name the baby Elias (Elijah), Miros felt drawn to the name Jeremiah.
“I feel like every time I have a baby, I’ve been really praying ahead of time for God to give me a specific name so it can mean something,” Miros explains. “Something was telling me to pick Jeremiah.”
In announcing her pregnancy on social media, Miros had quoted two verses from Jeremiah: “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I set you apart” (Jeremiah 1:5) and “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope in the future” (Jeremiah 29:11).
These verses would prove prophetic as her son Jeremiah’s story unfolded—a story that would touch the lives of many, including the OB who had insisted termination was the only reasonable option.
A Conversion of Heart
When Miros returned to her regular OB with news that her pregnancy was continuing normally, the doctor could hardly meet her eyes.
“Her face was that face of guilt, like embarrassment,” Miros remembers. “She wouldn’t look me in the eyes. And I just felt so sad for her. And she just said, ‘I’m happy that you stood your ground.'”
The nurse at the practice later confided to Miros that the OB had never believed amniotic sacs could reseal—had never witnessed it in 40 years of practice. The nurse shared that she and the doctor had gotten into a heated discussion about the possibility, and that she had gone home to pray for Miros and her baby.
“She was just crying. She’s like, ‘This is what the OB needed. She’s finally going to retire with a testimony of a miracle,'” Miros shares.
A Healthy Baby and a Testimony of Hope
Today, Miros’s son Jeremiah is a healthy baby who was recently baptized. His story has become a powerful testimony to the value of life-affirming medical care and the importance of not accepting termination as the only option in challenging pregnancies.
“I look at my son today… and I’m just reminded of those babies who didn’t get to make it,” Miros reflects. “He wouldn’t be here with us, I wouldn’t have been able to see his face or kiss him or hold him… He was already chosen from God. He had a plan for him.”
The Critical Role of Faithful Catholic Healthcare
Miros’s experience highlights why organizations like MyCatholicDoctor are essential in today’s healthcare landscape. When conventional medicine often defaults to termination recommendations, faithful Catholic healthcare offers alternatives that honor the sanctity of both mother and child.
“I just keep thinking I’m still reminded of those babies who didn’t get to make it, that he could have, he wouldn’t be here with us, you know, I wouldn’t have been able to see his face or kiss him or hold him,” Miros shared.

Finding Life-Affirming Care in a Culture of Death
Miros’s story reveals the challenges many women face when seeking life-affirming care during complicated pregnancies. Three different hospitals offered termination as the primary solution, and medical professionals were reluctant to provide even basic care like antibiotics when Miros refused abortion.
“It was eye-opening… we live in a society where they don’t give the help and the attention and the effort,” Miros observes. “And it was just so sad to see that the first option, everywhere I went, all the hospitals were like, ‘Oh, you have to terminate the pregnancy.'”
Yet through MyCatholicDoctor, Miros found providers willing to exhaust every life-affirming option before surrendering to what seemed inevitable. The result was not just a healthy baby, but a testimony that has already inspired others to seek similar care.
“I’ve shared my story on my Instagram. I’ve had two people reach out to me, ‘Hey, I read your post. Please give me their numbers.’ So I’m always referring them to my Catholic doctor,” Miros says.
